Who is God? - Religion Essay Sample

According to Psalm 90:2 God had no end nor did He have a beginning. The source of our life is from God, and hence since God gave it to us, we should worship him only and no other gods. God is the founder of the good news which is in the Bible. There is no individual on earth has ever seen God since He is in spirit form. God is usually higher than the individuals living on earth who are physical creatures and can be seen. The personality of God can be learned more through the Bible. It is through the Bible that we learn what God does not like what he likes, how he reacts to various situations and also how he treats people (Psalm 103:7-10).

Knowing God

Man on his own is not in a position of truly knowing who is God because man commits slot of sins. According to the Bible, we are all sinful, and we all fall short of the holiness that we are required to communicate with God (Romans 3).For an individual to claim to know God truly, he/she must receive Him in their lives and accept the promises of Jesus sacrifice on the cross. Jesus Christ gave the right to be called the children of God to those who received Him. Jesus affirms that he is the only way to a personal knowledge of knowing God and going to heaven when he said that He is the way, and the truth and no person goes to the Father unless through Him(John 14:6). Truly knowing God involves an individuals commitment to follow and obey what they read in the Bible. For one to be part of Gods plan of continuing to reveal Himself to the world one must continue doing good work which is per his will. All spiritual blessings are received from God.

In Mathew 6:9 the name of God was sanctified by Jesus when he said: Our Father who is in heaven, let your holy name be sanctified. The name of God is only one in the entire universe despite him being referred using many titles such as Allah, Brahma, Viracocha, and the Great Spirit. Different languages of people pronounce the name of God differently but have the same meaning. In the Bible, the name of God is mentioned 7,000 times. When Jesus was teaching people about God, he made his name to be known (John 17:26).

Attributes of God

God cares mostly about righteousness and justice. God is pleased with individuals who boast about knowing him that he is the LORD, exercising their kindness, they are righteous, and they are just in their doings. God is not pleased with the people who boast about their riches or their strength and victory. God also cares about mercy and the grace of his people. He extends his grace to a sinner who has repented since God will hold everyone accountable for their own lives and judge them accordingly. God will reward those people who live a righteous life on earth through giving them eternal life, and this is life without an end. According to the scriptures, this is referred to as the second death. The first and the second death are different. The first death separate individuals from their bodies and take them away from the worldly things while the second death is about the separation of various groups of people that is the forgiven and righteous group and the unrepentant and wicked group. God will ensure that mercy is given to the repentant and the humble and justice prevails. God has made a provision of repentant to individuals who want to do so, and thats the reason he sent the Messiah to die and suffer on their behalf so that they could have their sins forgiven (Copeland, 2008).

God is infinitude since He knows no boundaries. He is a God of no measure, and hence everything else about him is also infinite. God is also sovereign, and it is this attribute that He rules His entire creation. Sovereignty helps God to do what He knows to be best and to control everything that happens.

God is holy, and this makes Him different from all other creatures that He created. Holiness refers His perfect moral purity and His majesty. God does not sin or commit any act which is evil. Gods holiness is the definition of righteous and being pure in the entire universe. Any place that God appears that place is regarded to be holy. For example when God appeared to Moses at the burning bush that place became holy.

God is Omnipresence which means that he is ever present. God is capable of being everywhere at all times. The divine presence of God is composed of the entire universe, and there is no location that God cannot inhabit. God is also Omnipotence which means that He is all powerful. According to the monotheistic theologians, God usually has a supreme power. God does not have limitations which are subjected to man; hence He can do all that He wants. God is also Omniscience which means that He knows everything. God is aware of the present, past and the future. God is never taken by surprise by anything as He has total knowledge of everything (Copeland, 2008) .

The Trinity

God has three divine persons that are the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit according to the Christian doctrine of Trinity. The Father is at the top of the Trinity, the Son is begotten, and the Holy Spirit proceeds. The Holy Spirit in the Trinity is the third person. The Holy Spirit seems distant to many Christians as it lacks a body and personal but dwells in every believer as a companion of their faith. The Holy Spirit describes the attributes of God that He is free from any sin or darkness and spotless. The Holy Spirit shares the Strengths of God the Father and Jesus as being omnipotence, omniscience and eternal. The Christian theologians believe that the manifestations of the Trinity are seen and evident at the beginning of the Bible. The scripture shows the role of each member of the Trinity (Karkkainen & V.-M, 2017).

The Work of the Trinity in Salvation

In Salvation, the work of the Son is to redeem the people of God. After the Father has sent redemption to His people, the Son carries on the plan through securing redemption for everyone. The Son acts as the purifier of individuals from their sins through sprinkling his blood the people are saved from their sins. He works as a soldier who guards the soul after being redeemed. The son accomplishes salvation through reconciliation. The Son obtained eternal redemption for the people after he had ascended back to the right hand of the Father (Heb 9:12).

The Father is the Orchestrator of salvation in the covenant according to Peter and Jude. God chose those He loved before the worlds foundation and set them apart to salvation through foreknowledge, sanctification, and election. The Father is the plays a role in salvation through sending the Son and the Spirit at the right time to bring His people as His sons. The Father deploys the covenant requirements for salvation. He sanctifies His people the same way the Father sanctified the Son and sent Him into the world. The father sends redemption to His people. Jesus Christ redeems the group of people that are set apart in the covenant (Eph 1.5).

In salvation, the Spirit serves as the Divine resident of the soul. The spirit is sent to dwell in the soul of the same people that were redeemed by the son. The spirit calls those individuals that have been elected and chosen by the Father. The spirit will only call some people despite the Son dying for everyone. It challenges me to believe in Him to receive the eternal life and live a life that has been redeemed by Him which is free from sin. The Holy Spirit promotes spiritual desires for God. It applies the blood of Christ to the soul of individuals and cleanses their hearts from sin. The work of the Spirit concerning salvation is regarded as vital sanctification whereby a person is washed and cleaned after being born again by the Holy Spirit. This doctrine has challenged me to understand that only those who accept the offer of Christ and whom he died for will be saved and born again by the Spirit.

The Law of God

The greatest commandment is the name that Jesus used in the New Testament to describe his first two commandments. The first commandment that Jesus gave was Thou shall love God with all your heart, mind and soul and proceeded to give the second commandment which was you shall love your neighbor as you love yourself.

The royal law which is regarded as the new covenant is expressed through the Ten Commandments which guides man on how to live in harmony with God. The Ten Commandments formed a descriptive outline that was formed by the behavior of man in His likeness to follow.

The law of Christ is a phrase which has a meaning that is uncertain and is found in the New Testament. Most of the Christian theologists states that the law of Christ either fulfill, complete or replaces the previous Law of Moses.

The law of liberty sets us free from the chains of death and sin and provides promises that last forever. By obeying the law of liberty people are free to receive the gifts that God has promised to those who keep His commandment and love Him.

In conclusion, God has granted the dignity of free will to human beings of having the right to choose what to do, whether to worship him or not to worship him. He is a God who cares about people. God is known through the revelation of the gospel whereby he refers to it as the power of God unto salvation. Gods view in the conscience and creation is not enough. God is made known and revealed in all His majesty in the gospel of grace and His redemptive glory.
