Pornography as derived from a Greek word porne which means prostitute and graphien which means to write (Siegel) can either be presented in books, magazines, photos, films, and other media of scenes of sexual conduct that are suggestive or scurrilous and are intended to stir sexual desire.

Explicit entertainment is the portrayal of sexual conduct that is planned to stir sexual arousal in its perpetrators. Amid the twentieth century, Americans had several debates about whether explicit material ought to be legitimately secured or prohibited. The individuals who trust and believe that explicit entertainment must be secured contend that the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution ensured the opportunity of expression, including sexual articulation. Conventional opponents of explicit entertainment raise moral concern, arguing that the First Amendment does not protect the expression of individuals' conduct. At the end of the century, a few women's activists advocated against erotic entertainment since it perpetuates violence amongst its victims.

More often, victimologists suggest that the crime has a degrading effect on people who are perpetrators as well as members of the public or in other words, victims of pornographic contents (Siegel). For this reason, investigations reveal that many perpetrators of pornography are also victims of psychological coercion. The United States Government has laid down legitimate and legal measures that administer the idea of explicit behavior, which alludes to things society may consider immoral, foul, or shameless, and may incorporate material that is disgusting. Erotic entertainment is restricted to portrayals of sexual conduct and is considered not to be obscene. There are numerous perspectives on how pornography is viewed in our society, some of which are learned from experience, helping individuals to learn their likes and dislikes and those of their partners. Also, for every consideration, child obscenity is a standout amongst the most vigorously punished offenses in the domain of criminal law. More so, state and government laws vary, now and many years in the past, on their treatment of kid porn wrongdoings ("Child Pornography Virtually Legal?"). In most cases, these laws guide or controls explicit contents distribution for state-particular definitions and statutes for child pornography, incorporating into views and perspectives of select states' child porn offenses, punishments, and much more.

Apart from child-related factors, other factors including social, environmental, ecological factors may also affect pornography as a crime stated by law. One major issue is its effects on sexual violence or behavior that are viewed as assaultive. One significant debate over this issue came up when Ted Bundy, a serial killer, claimed that his criminal acts were fostered by his urge to read pornography. From this, pornographic materials linked to violence appears to be mixed. Different research shows different results about pornographic perpetrators and victims. For example, some research shows that viewing explicit materials can sometimes lead to an act of violence whereas others show that it reduces violence. On the side of pornographic perpetrators, viewing of such explicit contents sometimes causes a satisfaction of sexual impulses and may at the time make their sexual behaviors more aggressive leading to expressive crimes (Siegel).

In conclusion, the whole society at large is affected by the existence of pornographic contents, from the members of the society and the perpetrators of such contents. In most cases, victims are exposed to violence and aggressive behaviors which come by due to continuous exposure to pornographic materials. It is, therefore, the duty of the law to lay down regulations which govern the distribution of explicit materials to suppress the effects accompanied by its use.
