Management refers to the administration of an organization. It involves setting up a strategy in the organization that will assist in the coordination and organization of the employees to achieve its set objectives through the utilization of the available resources (United States, 1979, p. 24).

Background of the Study

Industrial unrest is a worldwide issue facing many if not all the employers both states and private, but is a challenge which developed countries have managed. In early years according to research by Barrett of Hawaii University (2011), in the early times that is early 18s, the developed countries faced industrial unrest which caused deaths of employees, employers and even security forces and also the destruction of properties. A notable example is in 1845 whereby due to long-unsolved industrial unrest Cotton mills worker under newly created Female Labor Reform Association fighting for the reduction of working hours from thirteen hours per day to ten hours and improvement to sanitation and also safety in the mills (Borgonan 2010).

Research by Eichengreen (2007) shows that, due to the high rate of industrial unrest and many employees and employers disputes in August 23rd, 1963, over two hundred and fifty thousand men and women marched in Washington on the ground of Lincoln Memorial. The history of industrial unrest management records in developed countries according to Glyn (2006) shows that on February 1919 there were protest two years of world war one wage controls whereby over sixty-five thousand workers went on strike in Seattle and forty thousand others workers joined them in solidarity which shut down many cities in America.

Problem of the Statement

The increase of industrial unrest recorded in African countries is a true sign that there is need to use a different approach to manage industrial unrest. That means the current approach or strategies are not effective and there is need to establish other alternatives to manage industrial unrest, and that is why this study will be focusing on one of the influences for management strategies in managing industrial unrest. Different management strategies have different influence levels in managing industrial unrest, and there is need to understand the levels of influence for different management strategies so that the employer can use the right strategy hence manage industrial unrest effectively.

General Objective

The general objective of the study will be to find out the influence of management strategies in managing industrial unrest in an organization

Specific Objectives

i. To assess the influence of the strategic agreement in managing industrial unrest in an organization.

ii. To establish the influence of resource in managing industrial unrest in the organization.

iii. To determine the influence of the ethical practice in managing industrial unrest in an organization.

iv. To assess how the employees participation influences the management of industrial unrest in the organization.

Research Questions

i. How influential is the partnership agreement in managing industrial unrest in public sector?

ii. How do resource sharing influences management of industrial unrest in public sector?

iii. How influential is the ethical practice in managing industrial unrest in public sector?

iv. Which ways employees participation influences the management of industrial unrest in public sectors?

Significance of the Study

The information of this study will be of much help to the leaders in an organization. It will provide vital insight on the different methods for industrial unrest which will be used to manage industrial unrest which has been a big challenge in public sector. The study will be used by the policy makers especially in the area of industrial unrest management. It will guide them to make policies which will support the right methods to be used to minimize the negative impact of industrial unrest.

The Scope of the Study

The study will be on the influence of management strategies in managing industrial unrest in a selected organization in public service in America.

Limitation of the Study

The study will be limited to the employer alone, so the finding of the study will be based on the employer point of view. Again the study will be limited to the employees in the head office and not all employees who work in the organization in other branches.

Literature Review

Theoretical Framework

The following theories will review this study; Leader-member exchange theory, decision-making process theory, neo-classical economic theory and the theory of wage, path-goal theory, Abraham Maslows hierarchy and Alderfers modified need hierarchy.

In conclusion strategic agreement is an effective approach to managing industrial unrest in public sectors. The strategic agreement recognizes trade union leaders as the key player in industrial unrest hence bring them to work together in varies ways. When strategic agreement is adopted in by any employer, the employer, the employees and their representative who are the trade union become one when issue which can result to industrial unrest arise is managed effectively resulting to industrial peace hence high productivity and growth of the institution
