The varying nature of the geography, environment, and the climates made the native groups culturally diverse. Overtime, different unique cultures developed and were different from another. The subarctic- the culture area stretches across the Alaskas inland and parts of Canada. The area is a swampy, waterlogged tundra with pine forest. The native groups that live in the Subarctic area are the Athabaskan speakers and the Deg Xinag speakers.

This led to animosity amongst the warring groups that caused death and destruction of property.

On their side, the French made points to learn the Natives languages and their ways of life. The French explorers ventured into the Louisiana region and established themselves in settlements and military posts. The nature of their relationship with the Native Americans saw a profitable economy.
