In his song, Hector Berlioz portrays his fixation and dreams, fits of rage and minutes of compassion, and imaginations of suicide and murder, despair and joy. As such, the song puts the person listening to it into an alternate mood of both ecstasy and excitement. Flute and violins hover flirtatiously via the appealing melody. Terrifying upheavals alternate with seconds of prime tenderness. The piece whips into a craze as it bears the spirit of the Artist to his frustration. As the song is being played, my heart feels full of moments of happiness, but there are other times when I feel low emotions.
