Chores have always been viewed as basic activities that parents use to train their children on independence and to be responsible. In most homes in the United States, children get paid for carrying out usual house chores. The usual chores, in this case, include cleaning utensils, cleaning the bathroom, washing the car, cooking, dusting the house and so forth. When children are paid to do the chores, it becomes a habit such that when there is no payment, they cease from doing the chores. It may also be argued that the pay brings in the aspect of rewarding good behavior and hence essential in developing good habits in children. From a personal perspective, parents should not pay their children to do family chores basing on the arguments of habit and independence and responsibility.

Parents should not pay their children for doing their house chores in regards to the elements of habit and prevention of conflicts. When children become used to getting money for every activity that they engage in, they develop the habit of receiving a reward any time they engage in work. They expect to pay such that when they do not receive it, they begin to rebel and hence to result in conflict. The parents will have to frequently engage in negotiations whenever a chore is done since payment is involved to avoid conflict. Possibly. Some children may stick to the habit such that it becomes difficult for them to understand whenever a parent is facing financial issues and hence lacks the ability to pay for the chores. The possible solution is to provide them with a monthly allowance such that they are able to purchase basic things that they require. Therefore, parents should not pay their children for doing their house chores when it comes to the aspects of habit and prevention of conflicts.

Also, parents should not pay their children for doing their house chores for them to develop moral responsibility and independence with respect to their future responsibilities. It has always been stated that charity begins at home and hence when it comes to appropriate behavior, parents have the responsibility of raising their children to become independent and responsible adults in future. When children are paid whenever they engage in any activity, the chances are that they will not take responsibility of any duty unless money is involved. Traditionally, chores are meant to equip children with basic home skills such that when they leave their parents home, they are able to live independently and perform basic duties without feeling being pressurized to do so. Furthermore, the responsibility makes it easier for them to adjust well in future in regards to their career prospects whereby they become responsible for their roles. Therefore, paying the children interferes with the acquisition of independence and responsibility.

As stated earlier, parents should not pay their children to do family chores basing on the arguments of habit and independence and responsibility. It is important for children to grow up in environments that teach them about being responsible and independent. Paying for chores implies that parents will have to engage in negotiations frequently and at times result in conflict when the parent is unable to meet the end of the deal. Providing them with allowances may be the best solution if money has to be put into perspective. Nonetheless, parents should not pay their children to do family chores.
