Fundamentally, many people believe that TV violence has adverse effects on children. This notion could be true based on the fact that Children in the United States spend much of their time on watching TV. In this way, television can be a major influence on the behavioral growth as well as value development. Unfortunately, more than 60 percent of television programs contain violence or scenes which are related to abuse. Various studies have therefore shown that children and teens have been negatively affected by violence shown in television programs.

Violent programs in television make children more aggressive. Ideally, seeing repetitive violence without being warned makes children believe that they can also engage in these violent acts and even do them practically. In fact, the majority of the television programs do not show or inform the viewer about the consequence associated with such violent activities. In this way, therefore, they will tend to engage in various activities such as physically assaulting their peers and robbery. Others may also participate in dangerous acts such as shooting especially when they get access to these critical firearms. For instance, a young boy of about ten years was arrested after a robbery reported in the Manhattan bank. Surprisingly, his lawyer claimed that such violence had been perpetrated by the crime programs that the young boy had been involved in watching and that his action of pointing a gun to one of the tellers in the bank was part of his play.

The daily experiences about the television programs form an essential component of toddlers life. These are the same things that toddlers learn for life. Watching television programs alone without guidance subject young children to the state of inability to distinguish between real life and fantasy. The situation makes them think that what they see on television are the things that people should emulate or embrace in life. As they grow between the ages of 10 and 17, their perceptions of violence do not change. They even become more aggressive and want to try whatever they see on television and find themselves engaging in violent acts such as fighting, robbery, and murder.

Research has also shown that children who spend much of their childhood watching television program that portrays violent scenes become more aggressive and violent when they become adults. As a result of the desire to explore and imitate their television stars, children find themselves involved in violent acts. A large number of family problems and breakups has also been linked to various environmental factors where an individual lived. Husbands who spent a more significant part of their children to watch programs that integrated violence was unable to contain their family matters except through partner abuse, physical assault, and fighting.

In conclusion, it is undeniable that television can be a significant influence on the behavioral growth as well as value development of a child. It had been shown to be one of the significant contributors to violence in the society. Violent programs in television make children more aggressive based on the fact that children are propelled towards imitating the actions they see on television. While it may not be possible to completely prevent children from watching TV programs, parents need to control the intensity through which they watch this program. In this way, children will grow and develop into good and responsible people.
