Health and medical care are among the most dynamic human disciplines where a significant amount of money and energy are spent on high quality and sophisticated research. The result has been exponential growth in the healthcare sector. Recurrently they are new and useful medical devices and procedures invented with intentions of helping doctors, nurses, and other medical technicians deliver the best care and treatment to patients. Apart from using the past-recognized procedures, the healthcare practitioners are implementing innovative interventions based on their best practices and robust research-based evidence. Therefore, evidence-based practice (EBP) has gained popularity due to its capability to improve patient care. Evidence-based practice is a process of integrating clinical expertise with patients value and available external evidence from systematic research (Risch, 2017). Development of EBP has increased public and professional accountability in the healthcare setting. The nursing roles such as the provision and design of care are in agreement with available evidence, patients characteristics, situations, and preferences.

Designer of Care

As a designer of care, EBP has a deliberate attempt to influence design decisions by the best available research evidence and knowledge. In most cases, the healthcare architects develop a healthy functional perspective in their work. They ensure that critical design concepts have gone through thorough testing and that they are sufficient data supporting their duties. Evidence-based practices and theories provide that designer of care creates environments which are therapeutic, supportive of family participation and efficient for staff performance (Risch, 2017). Also, in a health center physicians undergo stressful occurrences at times or they might have some personal issues. As a designer, one should come up with a setting restorative for workers under stress. Evidence-based architect, who is well informed, develop appropriate solutions based on the best information available from project and research evaluation. The healthcare designs should demonstrate improvement in the clinical outcomes, productivity, economic performance, and patients satisfaction.

Provider of Care

Evidence-based practice is a vibrant measure in enhancing critical nursing practices, particularly while providing quality care to patients. Integrating EBP in the healthcare providers culture improves patients outcomes and satisfaction. Nurses form the largest part of the healthcare workforce. In most cases, they apply their knowledge, skills, and experience to offer services to patients with changing needs. When their performance falls short of standards either because of a shortage of resources or lack of appropriate policies the health providers are held responsible (Risch, 2017). However, with EBP their roles are guided by a vast range of information from different situations and work environment factors. Today, EBP has facilitated critical care providers in offering services that have been proven effective. Likewise, nursing research has generated new knowledge and skills that have been generalized to the vast population improving patients outcomes (Titler, 2014). Organizations that have created the EBP and research culture has made their nurses to obtain high-reliability courtesy of their customers approval.

Professional Values: Human Dignity

The concept of human dignity is one of the fundamental professional ethical values emphasized in various fields of nursing practice and education. Human dignity is a complex, multidimensional but important ideal in the nursing profession. It entails showing respect for human personality and treating each other in a unique manner (Fain, 2017). In moral codes, human dignity is a duty while in the nursing workplace it is a moral obligation. In other terms, human dignity is a mean of displaying respect and competence. It allows individuals to feel valued, trusted and helps in developing value towards other people. Typically, human dignity has definitional aspects such as self-control, self-confidence, environmental control and privacy strengthening interpersonal relationships.

In relation to evidence-based practices, human dignity is both subjective and objective. Dignity is a human right and therefore objective on the other hand it is subjective as it allows individual differences to be taken into account. Therefore, as a nurse one should take into account patients beliefs, customs and other differences without making them feel inferior or superior to other people. For example, in instances where the body parts of a patient are exposed one should cover. Also, at times a patient is required to review some of their privacy for medical purposes and as a nurse, you ought to keep the details confidential. EBP demands that patients should feel valued and dignified during clinical procedures and communications (Fain, 2017). Also, influence the nurses to understand their patients and devote themselves to the dynamic nature of patients needs.

The Reason Why I Choose to Pursue Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

The healthcare industry is vast and vibrant with numerous challenges. However, this should not deter a decided mind to pursue a course such as Bachelor of Science in Nursing. It is a common occurrence to hear people regret and wish if given a chance they could pursue different careers. However, personally, nursing is a calling to serve individuals in the society. I would still go the same path if given a chance to reconsider my choice. For one to enjoy serving others in any social setting, you ought to relish making a difference and attending people with diligence.

Also, looking at the society, people suffer while taking care of their dear one. At times, some individuals will take this challenging period to spread all sort of humiliating opinions due to lack of professionalism. In other cases, people turn against their relatives who depend on them for care especially those suffering from terminal diseases. Some of these occurrences are humiliating and need intervention for all patients to enjoy equal and quality health services at all times and regardless of their social status. Observing the elderly suffer and the less fortunate in the society has motivated me in the pursuit of a nursing career. Likewise, the health centers are short of leaders to support patient-centered care, which is an opportunity for the medical practitioners. Being a nurse equips one with skills in critical thinking, health promotion, case management and capability to practice across a variety of outpatient and inpatient setting. Therefore, nursing is offering an opportunity to expand the leadership qualities for personal and community welfare.

Comparison and Contrast between Professional Values and Reasons to Pursue BSN

Using comparing professional values and my intentions in a nursing career, I feel that though I have not fully accomplished my desire am heading on the right path. In the health sector, care is an outstanding value to practice at all times. By looking at the needy and elderly in the society, this is the provision of the nursing profession. Also, treating other people with diligence and respecting their privacy and values despite their penurious conditions is an indication of honoring human dignity. Lastly, serving and interacting accordingly with patients and their relatives at their time of need requires integrity. Therefore, by merging professional values with evidence-based practices patients have the assurance of their safety and quality health services.
