The article provides an experience that one goes through when organizing an event via the Facebook platform. It provides a comparison that shows the relationship between the Facebook friends one has, an organization of events and their attendance in in the event about their reservation o Facebook. The author is delighted to have close to 700 online friends, cyber pals, and connections and doesnt feel much loss after disconnecting with a few other ones for various reasons. She organizes a Facebook party by creating an event on Facebook.

The turnout was quite impressive to the author, given the busy lifestyle in this 21st century. 15 people would be attending, 60 may be attending and the rest would not. However, on the day of the event, only one person showed up for the event, and this was quite depressing. The author ended up drinking to stupor after realizing that no one else was turning up to the event. She blames the entire modern world for chipping away from past friendships and blocking new honest efforts of establishing other good friendships. She ends up a desperate person and remembers how she has 700 online friends and still ends up drinking alone. As a result, she promises to spend less time online, since on Facebook definitely attending means maybe and maybe attending means likely not to attend. She sees all those digital friends as better than nothing.

Summary part

The modern world causes people to be workaholics and break real friendships. They then turn to social online platforms to make friends who are too busy to interact with others on reality grounds.

Paraphrase

It was getting close to midnight and my head was drunk in stupor. It finally sunk in me that no more person was coming. I started thinking of various ways to revitalize my social life as I took one more glass of Youngs Double Chocolate Stout imported from British. I promised to spend limited time online as I took a gulp of the bittersweet beer. Meanwhile, I kept thinking of how I was having 700 friends online and still spent time alone.

Own paragraph

People always want to hang out with you, but they always dont have the time. In this modern time, people are always too busy with work and all their career pursuits. The result is a breakdown in friendships due to the limited time available to interact with others. More time is also required to get back home from work, take dinner and relax with their families after their days work. It is also an opportune moment for family integration making it cumbersome for friends to keep in touch. The result is the use of online and social media platforms to interact with the outside world and long lost friends. Therefore, one shouldnt take it too personally when friends fail to avail time for them or fail to attend events which they promised to on social media. Moreover, irrespective of the busy schedules, people should always avail some time, however, limited it might be for others to enhance more personal relationships among them. Friends always make life bearable as they interact and share their lifes experiences.
