I visited Rio 2016 Olympics to watch athletics and other field event games. I arrived very early in the morning before the meeting starts (Rio, 2016). People from all walks of life were there and one could not believe that a large number of people like the one I saw in Rio could visit a place to only watch athletics. People were very many and they were of all races of the World including Hispanic, Whiles, Blacks and even Indians. It was not even easy to pass through the gate because security was very tight and only those who have had early booking were given the first priority, I was lucky I made the necessary arrangements before the event.

The event started with men marathon at 15.30 where athletes from countries such as Kenya, Ethiopia, USA, Uganda, Canada, and others. The race started at a low speed but athletes like that one from Kenya and Ethiopia started to overtake others one by one. The race was very interesting and people from different countries were cheering loud and clapping their hands in praise of Kenyan Athlete. Kenya athlete led followed closely by Ethiopian who also tried very much to clinch the Gold medal. The rest of the Athletes followed in procession with an athlete from USA leading. Despite that the rest did not take the medal, they also tried very much to represent their country.

I did not manage to watch all the sporting activities but I managed to watch boxing between USA and Netherland. I never knew that it is also a very interesting game. It was for women middleweight (60kg-75kg). From my observation, I realized that boxing is neither strength nor body size but it is all about skills. Claressa Maria (USA) was so skillful and could block and dodge the Netherlands Boxer before punching her. Despite a lot of effort made by Nouchka, she could not outwit the Maria because she was more skillful and swift to touch. The boxing ended up with American winning 3 while Netherlands getting 0.I did not watch other boxing because there were other games which I wanted to see more than boxing.

Furthermore, I was also able to watch cycling mountain bike. There were 49 participants from different countries. The cyclists wore tight clothes and carrying a container with water. The race was to pass through different hills and valleys (Rio, 2016). The race was very tough and different cyclists were overtaking and also being overtaken by others during the race. During the race, there was a big crowd next to the road watching and cheering different cyclists. Some of them were singing songs of praises and running from one place to the next to motivate them. Nino from Switzerland won the race and he was followed by Jaroslav from CZE. They defeated each other at a very short distance and minutes. At the end of the race, the winner was awarded Gold medal, the second silver, and the third bronze. The rest were just thanked for taking part in the race and asked to work hard in the next race.

I also had the opportunity to watch wrestling between different people. It is also an amazing game that one needs to watch keenly. I had the opportunity to watch wrestling between Magomed and Bedopassa. It was so interesting and the two were all tough and capable. Magomed was able to bring down Bedopassa for the first time. Other cyclists completed at the same time while others followed each other at close range.

In the Rio Olympics, people were moving from one place to the next. Some were running and cheering when medals were being awarded. The Stadium was packed to its capacity to the extent that one could not easily find his or her way out. Presidents of different countries such as Brazil and Canada attended the meeting to support their teams. They were also cheering and clapping in support of their teams.

Different games took place at different times to allow people from different countries to watch different games at different times. There were other games which took place at the same time. All the seats in the Stadium were full and many people had no chairs to the seat. All the athletes wore sportswear having the flag of their nation. Everybody who attended Rio Olympics was full of joy (Rio, 2016). During the sports meeting, different people from different countries were able to develop strong relationships to the extent that some ended up changing their contact. Those who won the medals had tears of joy while the losers were speechless because they hoped to carry medals to their home countries. Dances and celebrations were held in different parts of the stadium at the end of the game.

Observing these games made me formulate different questions that can be used in social events. What is the importance of nonverbal communication? This is essential in communicating with people from other parts of the World. It includes facial expressions, gestures, eye contact and body movement. All these are used to express the emotion of people and their feelings after winning or losing the game.
