The poem Train above Pedestrian by R Gibbon is free verse poem. It is a one stanza poem. The poem is a narrative poem; the author narrates how the city and dweller are moving to modernization.

The poem is talking about civilization built by generations over time concerning the train and other city structures ''stone ornaments curved by grandfathers, great uncles gone and second cousins '' on the other hand its also talking about sound pollution ''erratic waves, not of the lake but the noise.''

The author paints a picture of how the earths surface is changed by men and women with greed to make a profit for themselves and in the end causing drastic changes.

The styles used include;

The author uses assonance. Assonance where the vowel sounds have been repeated in a line like ''skill, greed' on the 2nd line of the poem.'

The alliteration, consonant being repeated on the 7th line of the poem ''cities circulate.'' The author uses simile. Simile is used where the author talks about ''curving leaves like memorials were built to be torn down again''. He compares the curling

. The poem has an irregular rhythm that is no line rhymes with another. Being a free narrative poem, the author chooses not to follow a specific rhyme.

There is a use of a rhetorical question. An example is ''why even try to list the kind of places men and women made to make money?''

The author portrays imagery in the poem. He describes the train and the city. The author paints a picture of the developing city and its residents.

The central theme of the poem is Civilization. The author narrates about how the city is moving marginalized to modern one. The people are also becoming capitalist; this emerges where talks about their love money.

The Young Woman

The poem The Young Woman by Reginald Gibbon is free verse poem. It is a one stanza poem. In the poem, the author talks about a hardworking woman when he was young. The poem is a narrative poem; the author narrates how the young women would wake up early in the morning and go to work. According to the author, the woman was not wealth like many people in the neighborhood.

Imagery, the author uses in some lines in the poem. When he is describing how the young woman used to dress on can have that picture in their mind. The author describes how the woman would tip toe creating another imagery description

The author uses metaphor in the poem. He compares himself to a hybrid boy and refers as a kinless creature. The poem has assonance that is repetition of vowels. An example is in the 15th line where vowel e has been repeated. In the 19 and 20 lines, the author uses personification by referring to grass as living. The poem has an irregular rhythm that is no line rhymes with another.

The main theme of the poem is hard work. From the authors narration, how the young lady woke up and what they owned with her husband. The author says unlike many Texans the young women and her husband had a Chevy. They were not in poverty state; this can be attributed to their hard-working traits.
