Many critics and human rights activist argue if abortion should be legalized. Each year, many cases reported by medical practitioners about women who want to undertake abortion for various reasons. Some may not want the pregnancy, while for others, it is a recommendation by the doctor to save the mother from a specified danger associated with carrying the pregnancy. In this essay, the focus will be on unsafe abortion and its effects in relation women. Therefore, abortion is the termination of a pregnancy by the uneducated person or performing the procedure in an environment lacking recognized medical standards (Ahman & Shah, 2011). Many abortion-related cases of abortion are carried out mostly by teenagers illegally without consultation of a medical practitioner. Studies have shown that many women who undergo abortions are those faced with unwanted pregnancies and therefore, resorts to extreme situations regardless of its safety (Hirsch & Barker, 1992). The outcome can be the risk, although many have managed to conduct the procedure successfully. Therefore, abortion can lead to many effects on an individual as discussed in this essay.

Abortion can cause death- According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), every 8 minutes, a woman in a third world nation will lose her life due to complications resulting from abortion. This life-threatening complication primarily arises from hemorrhage, genital trauma, infections, sepsis and necrotic bowel. As a result, many teenagers lose their lives when they happen to get pregnant and are not ready to carry on with the pregnancy to completion of the gestation period. Therefore they turn to illegal abortion.

Abortion affects mental health- Previous research reveals that women report various emotions immediately after the abortion in which some may say relieving, but on the other hand, the may experience feelings of sadness or guilt. With that, there is the stigma associated with abortion as the woman may think of being condemned by her partner or the society for her decision (Major, 2017). As a result, it may lead to a long-term mental disturbance to the women involved to a point where they may not have the courage to have kids again shortly, therefore reduction in a disturbed population in a nation.

Abortion can lead to future childbearing capability- During the process of abortion, a developing embryo is forcefully removed from the womans womb using some procedures. These methods include; suction aspiration, dilation, and curettage, dilation, and evacuation, mifepristone, and methotrexate chemical among others (Abortion methods | American Life League, 2017). Multiple abortions can result in abnormal placenta implantation if future pregnancies, for instance, using methods which the performer inserts into the uterus can cause uterine injuries which can damage cervix or the uterus.

In conclusion, abortion has been on the rise in the current generation due to many factors, for instance, change in lifestyle where teenagers engage in unprotected sexual behaviors and end up getting pregnant, and because they are not ready for it, the look for alternatives shortcuts like abortion. Studies reveal that for female teenagers to gain material benefits, they expose themselves to risky sexual related actions including repeated abortions without taking into consideration their health vulnerability (Silberschmidt & Rasch, 2001). In taming the increased cases of life-threatening cases arising from abortion, illegalization of abortions may be the best cause of action in protecting the human dignity in conforming to the teachings of the Holy Books. Doctors who conduct illegal abortions should be on the frontline in prosecution chambers as they are the ones who provide backdoor abortion prescriptions to many teenagers and women without medical grounds or assessment. Therefore illegalization of abortion can be human enough in protecting innocent lives lost to an inhuman population in the society.
