Many scholars and analysts have documented literature both praising and criticizing the computer technology based on its implications on the society and people's lives. The mixed views and opinions have prompted critical argument addressed in this essay. This paper, therefore, focused on addressing the conflicting issues regarding development of computer technology by assessing the implications of computer technology in our lives and conclusively ascertaining the benefits of the development of computer technology in our society today.

Development of Computer Technology

Computer technology is one of the greatest inventions by man because it has contributed greatly in impacting different aspects of our lives. The invention is clouded with controversies because different people view the invention differently. The development of computer technology is beneficial to the society, and my stand is based on the numerous benefits that the society is enjoying today because of the invention. Different sectors of our society have witnessed the benefits, starting from education to business, healthcare, infrastructure, communication and finance (Hamlett, 2017). The invention has resulted in numerous benefits and advantages witnessed by different people in our society. This has therefore contributed to my taking stand that computer technology is beneficial to our society and the people holding contrary views need to understand that there are numerous benefits.

Computer technology has enhanced communication and the sharing of information through the development of networks and the web. Computer networks and the internet have made the world a global village whereby interaction and communication sharing is instantaneous. The process of sharing information between persons in different parts of the world has been shortening thanks to computer technology, and this has facilitated the growth and development of different global organizations and other sectors that rely on the accuracy of information-sharing to grow (Brogden & Williams, n.d.). Computer technology has also facilitated the ease of accessing information by different persons and organizations compared to how information was accessed before the development of computer technology (Toyama, 2017). The speed and accuracy of information shared have significantly improved thanks to the use of computers as the medium information sharing.

Computer technology development has improved the security and safety of data stored. The hardware and software developed help in virtual storage of huge volumes of data which is convenient and safe compared to storage of data in paper files before the development of computer technology (Adiguzel, 2008). The computer hardware and software enable the storage of huge volumes of data in encrypted formats, therefore, enabling securing the data. Computer technology, therefore, provides the infrastructure for data management which is suitable for personal use and big organizations as well.

Computer technology has contributed to the development of education sector all over the world. Through the computer networks and the different web, institutions have successfully created virtual libraries whereby students access scholarly material for intellectual growth (Grundmeyer & Peters, 2016). Secondly, through the internet students can access numerous materials with the help of web search engines. The computer technology, therefore, plays an active role in providing students with literature and scholarly material that is relevant to their learning. Computer technology has also given rise to online learning and virtual classes whereby institutions reach different students with the help of internet technology.

Finally, computer technology has helped in improving interactions between people in different parts of the world. There are different social media sites and applications that have developed because of computer technology. People from different parts of the world communicate and interact easily without being physically together (Dyer & Shepperd, n.d.). The development of social media has improved world interaction, and information sharing and people are interacting more today that before thanks to the development of computer technology.

On the other hand, the development of computer technology has received negative views by different analysts and scholars. Computer technology is blamed for stigmatization and cyber bullying of people. People on social media and other sites that have developed because of computer technology bully and discriminate against other for their looks or different views regarding societal matters (Wiederhold, 2017). Computer technology has received a negative review by analysts because information and data security is not assured. Data stored in computer hardware and software can be manipulated and interfered with through hacking. Hacking has resulted in the loss of data the by individuals and big corporations as well. Computer technology has helped the advancement of criminal activities whereby experts used the knowledge to steal from banks and other institutions with a lot of cash (Saunders, 2011).

Conclusion

Computer technology has improved communication and information sharing, improved data storage and security, facilitated learning through availing learning materials and online classes, and improved interaction between people through social media platforms. On the other hand, computer technology has resulted in cyber bullying, data loss through hacking, and cybercrimes. The advantages of computer technology as identified outweigh the disadvantages and therefore computer technology is beneficial to our society today.
