In our passport project, we managed to attend to the homeless in the Dayton area. Throughout the project, I happened to interact with several homeless people and gave them hope for a better fulfilling life. I enjoyed displaying the donation flyer which showed the sign of love which embraced the idea of the donation project that we were doing. I openly carried the donation flyer to call upon people to take part in the gift of mens T-shirts, Underwear, Jeans, sweatpants, socks, bottled water, men shaving creams and many other collections. I managed to collect a number of the donations the society and all the people who were willing to help the poor (Rizzolo et al., 2015).

1. The service learning opportunity that I engaged in

I participated in collecting the donations from the people using flyer donation, involved with the less fortunate and homeless people and I offered the helpless hope for life. I primarily engaged in providing the donation to all the possible people who were in need in then Dayton area. I also engaged in playful activities that I aimed at making the homeless to feel that they are valued by the society. I also involved myself in-jokes session with the young people in Dayton which made them feel appreciated as part of the community (Baharuddin et al., 2014).

2. How did you determine the need for this service in the community?

Through several visits to the Dayton area and associating with various people in the area, I discovered that many people in Dayton area lacked a place to lay their bodies after the daytime duties. Many of them spent nights in Restaurants seeking for a chance to stay there for shelter. Also, while doing a windshield with other group members in the Downtown Dayton, I gathered information mostly what is the most significant need for that area. I also discovered that the people in the community were many than the number of houses for shelter. After that discovery, I happened to interrogate some of the people about how they survive with the situation of lack of a place to stay for the night. Their emotional answers to my quizzes made me develop the need to make a second visit to the area to help them get shelter and some amenities. The homelessness of the people in the community caused me to develop the guts to do the project to the Dayton area. Also, I happened to realize that most men, women, and children lacked general amenities like clothes.

3. What was your role in this service learning project? Please include your contribution as a group member.

My role in this service project was to organize the tasks that each team member was to perform so as to make the project a success. I was also helped in making the decision by of which member to take a particular task with the view of each member's ability. After setting up the dates of doing the service, making sure who will bring the bins for donation and what will be our most pressing needs for the gift, I printed a large poster with all the details. The details included where the donation will be located, what people could donate, which shelters the donations will go; and put it next to the bins in the classroom so everybody could easily see (Jackson et al., 2015). After a week, a couple of group members and I gathered together and cleaned that are in the classroom. One of the group members took the clothing to the shelter since she was living very close to the haven. After accomplishing the task, I took off the flyer poster from the wall and returned the bins to the people I had gathered from. I ensured that nothing was left at sight and everything was all cleaned up.

4. How did your involvement in this service project as a student nurse influence the health of the individuals and families in the community you served?

I made sure that the health of the people that is ensured by the use of relevant and clean requirements and wears like underwear, shaving blades, dental cleanups, and toothbrushes was well distributed to the individuals. I also ensured that the community received support to help the people to get a place to live. Also, as a student nurse, by involving in this service project I helped someone or some to afford the basic needs regarding food and clothing.
