Governor Eric J. Holcomb of Indiana gave a state of the state address. The governors desired purpose was to provide a persuasive speaking. In his speech, he attempts to reinforce and modify his audiences beliefs attitudes, and values about making the life of their citizens better.

The occasion for the speech was special. Before the governors speech, Lieutenant Susan Crouch gives a speech of introduction. When governor Holcomb comes forward, he seemed to consider occasion of the speech because he talked about his intention of the speech.

The demographic makeup of the people in the room appeared to be middle-aged. Moreover, the gender of the audience appears to be mixed with a majority of them being male. Additionally, they are people of higher social class since they are the audience of a governor. As well, attitudinal make up of the audience showed that they paid attention to the speakers message.

The main points of the speech were the proposed set of priorities that the speaker mentioned during his speech. The first was to create a strong diverse economy. The second was to build long-term roads and bridges. The third was developed a skilled workforce from the 21st century. The fourth was curbing the drug epidemic. The fifth was to help taxpayers by providing great governance. I identified them by looking at the transitions in the body of the speech.

His introduction of the speech was effective. The reason is that it described a purpose and had a thesis statement as well as it was an attention getter. In the introduction, Governor Holcomb first introduced his audience then explained the purpose of the gathering.

His conclusion was effective. The reason is that it had a cause and effect pattern. In the conclusion, the governor affirms, As we lead Indiana into our third century, even as we sustain those many things were doing well, lets not be afraid to think big, be bold, and act with courage.

During his speech, the first type of support used was narratives. In his speech, the governor provides a narrative of when he visited three CEOs of major global companies. The second support used was providing examples. He provides examples of Reggie Jones and Lucas Oil and the way they built their business. The governors choices were effective in a manner that they helped to demonstrate the severity of his topic.

The types of organizational strategies used during his speech were spatial patterns as well as compare and contrast patterns. They were effective because the listener managed to comprehend the relationship between one subject to another as well as get the mental picture of the topic.

The governor was credible during his speech because he adapted to the audience by keeping them engaged in the speech. As well, he knew more about the topic and provided supporting points through persuasive speaking.

The governors use of language was remarkable because he avoided ambiguity, provided clarity, was concise, used spoken language, and avoided offensive language. Similarly, his use of physical and vocal delivery was effective

During his speech, the governor incorporated other elements of delivery such as providing a video segment and a transcript of his speech. They were effective because they kept the topic under discussion simple. It makes a difference in a way that it emphasized on the key points of the speech.

Overall, Governor Eric J. Holcombs speech and the event were incredible. Mainly, his inclusion of various elements of speech was great. Beyond doubt, the governor presented a strong speech. It had a fantastic beginning, middle, and an end, which passed a passionate message. However, in my speech, I would request a big podium where I would manage to move around. Since the governors speech was persuasive, moving around would create more emphasis. Finally, the compelling nature of his speech made it possible for his audience to comprehend his point of view.
