Communication is something that business leaders should always have on their checkbox before everything else in the business. Effective business relies on effective communication to thrive. With employees mainly, it needs to come straight from the heart because it takes time, repetition and a whole depth of thought. This article focusses on what is useful in an organization for a manager and a leader a well.
First of all, creating a platform for employees to be able to speak out on whats not going on well in the company makes it practical for the company to run and achieve success. Most companies tend to focus on the positives which are okay, but having employees tell you about what is going wrong is important too. This creates a good environment for both the manager and the employees. A face to face communication is also prominent in communication. This is because there are both verbal and non-verbal cues in communication. A manager communicating with his employees needs to pay attention to the non-verbal cues especially where employees do not speak out so well in the meeting. Employees who are paid attention to tend to engage actively and honestly in open dialogue in the matters being addressed (Burke, 2017).
One of the ancient means of effective communication all through the centuries has been writing. Writing is one of the cheapest methods of communication and gets the intended message communicated. A good example would be a company like Apple. The Chief Executive Officer, Tim Cook, uses writing in his public addresses. He has a written projection that he slides through as he addresses the multitude that gathers to listen especially when they are launching a new product into the market. In this gatherings, he discusses his employees, the general public and investors altogether.
In this globalized world of today, the use of telephone has become an indispensable means of communication. This method is effective in such a way that, it is reliable when the manager needs the employees' contribution to a particular brainstormed topic. This is simply achieved through the conversation via the telephone. This means of communication, however, has its downside. One cannot achieve a face to face reaction on a conversation via telephone. An excellent organizational leader strives to achieve a direct contact communication with their employees to make the maximum contribution that steers the rest of the organizational activities (Benzer et al., 2017).The C.E.O. of Apple Tim Cook uses various means of communication at once. He is not the only company manager who uses these methods, but in this case, we use his styles as a reference. He uses live streaming discussion for effective communication in his presentation. This is, of course, a modern method of communication that allows people to join in the conversation with the manager on the feedback they have on the product may be if it is a launch or on the progress of the organization on a particular project (Schein, 2017). In conclusion, all methods analyzed above so far have in most companies proved to be effective for both the leaders and the managers involved. The advertisements when launching a new product in the market is very well choreographed after proper sit-downs with the employees who work around the clock to ensure everything is in order and they are up against their competitors in the market. This is the root of all success and efficient production in an organization. A leader and a manager who incorporates all these styles addressed above have an assurance of smooth operation in their organization.
