Effective communication contributes majorly to the development of an organization since it assists managers to perform functions including motivating planning and controlling all the activities within the organization. The foundation of every successful business organization rests on effective communication. Therefore, communication constitutes the building blocks of an organization hence beneficial to all managers who seek to enhance better performance in a competitive environment.
Communication enhances improvement in performance of an organization. Through communication, the employers can identify the problems affecting the organization and re-establish mechanisms of management to ensure that there is better performance of the organization and cooperation among employees. The employees can improve their performance if it is not up to the mark. Communication makes it easier for the management and employees to harmoniously iron all the mistrusts and misunderstandings that may exist in an organization.
Communication ensures motivation on the employers and employees. Communication plays a major role in the organization since employees and management can own up the shortcomings and build on successes of the organization. An effective sharing of ideas is crucial in ensuring that every employee is emancipated on the shortcomings. Through communication, the employer and employees can assess the low scores and act upon the affected areas in the organization. Both parties involved get motivated in doing the right thing instead of repeating the same mistake. Employees and employer both derive satisfaction and therefore owning up the responsibility.
Communication serves as the major source of information which helps in decision making. Management relies on the communicated information to identify an alternative cause of action. The problems affecting an organization can only be established through communication. An effective engagement in communication between the employer and employee results into an exchange of vital information which if acted upon, would result in an appropriate decision making.
Communication creates a positive attitude among employees and employers leading to greater performance. Communication, therefore, enhances an informed decision coupled with a positive attitude. An informed decision making has a better attitude. Different information obtained from effective communication bring about the positive attitude towards solving any problem that might engulf an organization leading to retardation in performance.
Communication serves as a socialization tool. Since no business can thrive without socialization, communication plays a major role in socializing the employees and management; communication also controls management process. Grievances of subordinate and policies of the organization are made known through communication process. Additionally, communication is instrumental in uplifting the morale of employees. Therefore, communication in the form of verbal or nonverbal the employees to submit different feedbacks and requirements to the management. (Husain, 2013).
Differences between workshop and on-site meeting
Communication acts as a powerful tool with huge impacts on the success of the organization. Examination of different communication techniques at different situations is important while engaging the employees. Therefore, the differences between the workshop and on-site meeting offset different situations to engage employees in an organization. Workshops are conducted with the aim of solving problems through deep plan engagement, agreement analytics, designed with a flow to decide while on-site meetings are organized to derive information from the employees. Whereas workshops have distinct primary roles, on-site meetings contain informally defined roles. Moreover, unlike workshop which is organized with the aim of addressing one issue at a time, on-site meetings cover many issues affecting the organizations.
Similarities between workshop and on-site meetings.
Both workshop and on-site employee meting have clear and strategic internal communication to a company. Both techniques are meant to streamline cooperation in an organization. The techniques are both economical and effective regarding relaying information to a large number of employees in an organization. Additionally, both workshop and on-site training help in socializing employees. Besides establishing the progress of the institution, these techniques are organized with the intention of creating a social expression of ideas among other functions ( Balakrishnan & Masthan, 2013).
Situations where workshop technique may be applicable
Since people learn different things different ways, there are numbers of different ways to pass information. The workshop, therefore, offers advantages over other methods when it comes to employee training in other circumstances. In situations where intensive education of employees is required over a short period, the workshop would be the best technique to apply. For instance, management may decide on organizing one week training of all employees instead of holding individuat training at a limited time. When participants may be working in different places, or they are far apart, or if there is limited time to commit to other techniques, the workshop offers the alternative solution. Additionally, the management may be destined to introduce a new concept in an organization and require participants to investigate. A workshop provides the desirable technique to encourage and help in practicing the actual methods.Circumstances where on-site techniques are applicable
On-site meeting technique is appropriate when the organization have a shrinking budget and wants to maintain cost-effectiveness of the meetings. In cases where management wants to teach offer hands-on skills and give participants chances to try new methods, the on-site technique should be considered. In cases where management wants instant feedback from participants with the aim of ensuring participants avoid failures in real future situations, the on-site technique would be the best mechanism. On-site meeting techniques are preferred in circumstances where participants work together since they can pass the new ideas on the available method of operation to their colleagues. Especially for people who work together, an on-site employees meeting can help to create a sense of community or common purpose among its participants (Ince, 2011).
