Public health according to CDC refers to the application of scientific interventions and art to enhance disease prevention and to promote human health (Cdcfoundation.org, 2017). In the community, there are efforts by both private and public organizations to solve health problems through diagnosing and investigating health hazards in the community. Additionally, the community and individuals are also stakeholders of public health by practicing ways of disease prevention and control. In this discussion, I will illustrate five things of public health found in my community and then elaborate on one major thing that I find important to the community.

The five things in the community that are part of public health include; immunization of newborn babies to promote disease prevention. Immunization is a predominant part of public health services that help in preventing and controlling infections. Another thing is the provision of quality drinking water that plays a role in preventing diseases to the community such as dysentery and viral infections. The third part is the investigation of infections including communicable and new infections such as tuberculosis and Zika Virus. Infectious diseases and new infections are very critical to the community, and therefore control and early interventions are the essential services. The fourth thing is hygiene campaigns in the community especially in public and private institutions where a majority of the population is found to promote infection control and prevention strategies. The fifth thing that is part of public health in the community is the management of health hazards such as waste disposal. Waste disposal is a hygiene practice to ensure the community is not at risk of acquiring infections.

Of the five things in the community that are part of public health, hygiene campaigns are more effective in enhancing infection prevention and control. The community benefits from it by acquiring a broad range of information concerning other practices of public health. Through hygiene campaigns, disease awareness spreads to the entire community. There are no barriers to this practice because information is shared among individuals through various channels of communication such as television, posters and social media. Rapid interventions on disease prevention and control rely on effective channels of communication in the community, and this explains the necessity for hygiene campaigns.

My recommendation is that health campaigns should regularly be held focusing the highly populated areas such as institutions to reach out a large percentage of the target population. In conclusion, sharing of essential information concerning strategies of disease prevention and control is an important part of promoting public health, and therefore campaigns represent a critical part of public health.
