Child psychologists posit that perhaps imagination is more important than knowledge to the mind of a child since imagination opens doors to many possibilities. Imagination and creative play is the genesis of ingenuity and thinking outside the box in regard to child development. During imaginative play, a child learns about his/her environment by manipulating objects, expressing themselves verbally or non-verbally, react, interact or attempt different roles. Imagination inspires the social and cognitive development where a child attempts to solve problems using different approaches and in the long run the critical thinking skills become sharpened.

Contribution of Different Activities to a Childs Creative and Imaginative Development

Nature presents an ideal environment which may be used to reinforce proper child development owing to its dynamic nature. It provides numerous opportunities for problem-solving, creativity and discovery. For instance, children may make designs from twigs or draw different shapes in the sand. Encouraging a child to invent scenarios where he/she assumes different roles and organise his ideologies which is critical in the development of verbal and social skills. Encouraging a child to participate in art activities inspires creative expression which ultimately natures imagination. Activities such as sculpting, painting, drawing and collage provide a platform where children may work through their emotions, express their ideas and make decisions including sharpening hand-eye coordination and developing fine motor skills.
