There is a saying that goes, A dog is the only thing on the planet that loves you more than he loves himself. For the longest time now, the dog has been the most preferred pet and closest to human beings. Some people choose the dog pet because of their ornamental value in that they furry bodies are gentle on touch and calming on appearance. On the other hand, others prefer it because they offer a certain level of protection as they happen to be very territorial. It could also be because they offer excellent company and their little acts of affection make the days of their owners a little brighter. Of all these reasons, one thing is certain; the dog is the closest human companion when it comes to pets and is crowned mans best friend. The dog has many more attributes that make it the most suitable human pet and the primary benefits include, companionship, exercise, and protection.
Dogs are lifelong companions and friends. They are pets whose primary goal is to love and be loved, and that is secretly everyones wish. In a society where everyone is trying to change and fit in with the current trends and fashion, solitude might just be the greatest gift to self. People spend too much time doing things they dont like and with people they dont like in the name of leading a normal life. The fear of loneliness has greatly affected the virtue of individuality among many people. However, in most cases people tend to confuse solitude with loneliness and dog owners can best understand this. Having a dog that keeps you company as you focus on your dreams draws the line between loneliness and solitude ("Highlighting the Importance of Pets"). The company of people can be quite suffocating sometimes. Many people refrain from the too much human company, to be able to focus on their needs and reflect on their goals without any form of undue influence or coercion. Although it gets lonely sometimes, it one of the most freeing feelings that one can experience. These furry creatures have so many sentimental values to their owners than they can imagine. Although dogs cannot speak, they can feel and compliment your emotion without having to tell them. It is said that dogs do speak but only to those who know how to listen (Garcia, Laura Sodre Galvao et al.). They always look up to meeting you at the end of a long day, and they will make you feel that you are not alone in whatever you are going through. A proud dog owner once said, when I needed a hand, I found your paw.
Secondly, a dog can be an equally good play mate. The most popular dog game is the fetch, and it gives the owner an opportunity to be outside and exercise. Research shows that with the rapid advances in technology, more and more people are resorting to a sedentary lifestyle. Taking a dog for a nice evening walk in the park is not only good for your peace of mind but also gives you a chance to exercise physically. Hitting the gym is another way of keeping fit but having a friend whose lifes purpose is to love and please you (Hargrave, Claire). All a dog wants, is for their human friend to be happy and throw the ball. Therefore, it will do just about anything to achieve that. Walking and playing with your dog at least once daily improves your physical activity to up to 20% percent.
Finally, dogs are very protective of their human friend ("Recognising The Benefits of Pets to Children"). Dogs do not discriminate unless you pose a threat to their owner. Stories have been told of dogs who take a liking to the poor and homeless people. Despite all the suffering that they go through in the streets, they never abandon their owner in search of greener pastures. Dogs are loyal to a fault. They will stay by your side regardless of what you put them through and unconsciously protect you from anything they perceive to be dangerous. There are dogs who know when their owner is using drugs and will understand them even in their state of influence (Arehart-Treichel, Joan). Dogs will go on and on to love and protect you even if you mistreat them because their desire to please is more than words can explain. It is almost sad and heartbreaking to learn that dogs will never give up on you yet some people are out rightly rude and disregard their very existence.
In conclusion, dogs are Gods gift to man. Having an animal that understands your every feeling and is there by your side no matter what you are going through is more than you can ask. Dogs are a physical representation of love, and their senses are more than helpful when it comes to keeping their human friend company. Whereas they cannot speak, they understand you and can pick it up that something is not right. Their innocent eyes, wet noses, soft paws, and furry body are all designed to make your life cozy. They radiate love wherever they are and try to fix whatever is wrong in the best way, they know how.
