The Criminal Justice Policy Foundation (CJPF) is an organization in the United States that was formed in 1989 that is focused on the reforms on drug policies. CJPF main mission is to create awareness and educate the members of the public and the journalists (media) on how the drug policy affects the criminal justice system. It is on the frontline of providing solutions on the problems in the criminal justice system. It posits that the policy put in place by the United States is not sufficient to monitor and control the availability as well as the abuse of drugs. It offers insights on the arrests, trials and sentencing or imprisonments that are the tenets of the criminal justice process. According to Maxfield & Babbie (2014), the organization acknowledges that the existing policy on drug generates more problems in criminal justice process. It therefore advocates for community policing as a policy that is more efficient in policing. It supports executive clemency and rehabilitation techniques.
Police using social media in solving crime
Police use social media in stopping and preventing crimes from taking place in the streets and neighborhood. They use social media to find out what is happening around them and respond to crimes when they occur. They use it to do their investigations concerning a probable crime as well as evidence during arrests and trials. The society today is issues surrounding crime and justice. There are conversations on a daily basis on justice and crime in books, magazines, newspapers, films and TV broadcasts among others. Crime, criminal justice and criminality are constructed by the new media. News media also shapes the perception of the public on the police, deviants, criminals and victims of crime. According to Brainard & Edlins (2015, p.733), the new performance crimes are created and distributed through new media and involves the performers; those who are willing as well as those who are not.
Worst Anti-Crime PSAs
Among the worst anti-crime PSAs include the rap song against drugs by LA Lakers where the players were dressed in short shorts and sunglasses that were oversized and compelled to perform a choreography that was rudimentary; forest fire PSA by Joanna Cassidy in cutting down the arsonists which could have possibly led to increased zoophiles generation; an unpopular film on social guidance called boys beware that equated child molestation to homosexuality; the turning of hot dogs to troll dolls by LSD when majority of people would have loved it instead; a PSA called real children do not bounce back, it was made to look like abusing children is fun; and the use of 70-year-old women as models to talk to endangered youth about drugs in the unpopular golden girls, say no to drugs among others (Wilson, 2013).
