The primary objective of Software-Defined Networking (SDN) is to allow network and cloud administrators and engineers to respond swiftly to dynamic business settings through a centralized command console. In essence, SDN incorporates various networking technologies which are designed to render the network more agile and flexible to provide support to the virtualized server as well as the storage infrastructure. SDN decouples the network forwarding and control functions allowing for the network control to be programmed directly while allowing for the underlying setup to abstracted for network services and applications (SDX Central, 2017).

As discussed, Big Data has immense potential benefits; in fact, it is the next frontier for competition, productivity, and innovation. The quantity of data in the modern world has been growing exponentially and analyzing massive data sets (Big Data) would become an essential foundation of competition, supporting new tides of innovation, productivity expansion (McGuire, Manyika & Chui, 2012). Big data would unlock important value by rendering information usable and transparent at high frequencies. With big data analytics, business executives can collect transactional data accurately and in detail, and interpret the data to expose product variability and enhance performance.

2nd Discussion

As highlighted, Cloud Computing and Virtualization are two distinct technologies which can be implemented to benefit an organization. Basically, virtualization is a software which manipulates the hardware while cloud computing is the service yielded by the manipulation. In essence, virtualization is the basic component of cloud computing. It aids in delivering the benefit of cloud computing. Cloud computing, on the other hand, is the delivery of mutually-shared computing infrastructure; data or software, or a service and on-request via the Internet (Angeles, 2014).

All SDN frameworks have two protocols: OpenFlow and Application Programming Interfaces (APIs). Although often considered to be synonymous with SDN, OpenFlow is just a component of the SDN architecture. It is an open communications protocol standard which allows for the control platform to relate with the forwarding platform (SDX Central, 2017).
