Carla Trujillo grew up serving men with properly cooked breakfast, dinner and other desserts to obtain attention from men that she can make a great wife. All these emanated from her background when she used to help her aunt and mother with household activities thus perfecting the art when she grew up. However, Carla main aim was to impress men especially her father to prove that she was responsible enough to control her life and her siblings hence removing the doctrine of being controlled in the house by her parents. Carla further narrates how her father controlled every aspect of her life includes her siblings. For instance, she asserts that every thought made, the food they cooked and ate, and the topic discussed was controlled by the moods of her father, thus feeling oppressed and depressed in life.
However, Carla felt for the first time in her life a sense of belonging and happiness when she first joined college thus acting on her own judgment and taking charge of her life. From such freedom obtained in college, she vowed to herself that she will never allow any person to take control of her life especially after experiencing the freedom she desired for a long time in her life. This made her rebel other people in her graduate school such as church leaders and the authorities in her job for what she termed as the king of the castle to avoid the scenarios she experienced for the past eighteen years of her life. However, as she met Chicana who had a similar situation like hers in her upbringing who revealed how her mother was a tough woman who controlled Chicanas life. In addition, through her past sensitization, she began to understand how power and relationship with others like Chicano movement affected her moral development while in school. For instance, she realized that some people in her college practiced lesbianism, racism, her gender, and race was demeaned thus feeling deprived of her culture and skin color especially from the Euro-American colleagues.
Understanding of Intersectionality
From Claras attempt by Euro-American women to silence her voice and encounter oppression led to domination and discrimination of her feminism such as her race, skin color, and civil rights. Such situations prompted her to feel secluded from the society she knew hence taking advantage of her because of her silence. She developed frustrations and angered by the lack of respect that her peers disregarded and even to an extent insulted her. But after giving them a chance to change their moral behavior, the disrespect continued prompting her to confront those who insulted her and people who rebuked women because of their gender and race. Besides, she decided to persuade for the rights of her fellow women colleagues but to her dismay, they turned down her aggressive attitude as both women and men perceived her as Chicanas activist and viewed her as a person who loved trouble instead of peace.
She could not understand why people offended and hate her that much as people vowed to make her oppressed and uncomfortable in her graduate school. She regarded herself as Chicanas activist who was ready to pay the ultimate price in defending her feminist rights despite her gender and race thus disguising the euphoria of homosexuality as against the Chicana integral part of cultural society. However, according to Chicanas scholarly work, she vowed to eradicate bad moral in the community and publicly denigrating those culpable of immorality. Therefore, she spoke confidently in protecting the violation of her rights to an extent of speaking about Chicana mind by advocating for the truth in embracing sanity within the education system. In addition, she realized that the only way to succeed in such difficult condition of her life, she required consistency in empowering women and raising their concerns to relevant authorities in different arenas to eliminate the perpetuating ignorance in the society.
Questions relating to the topic and how to relate
The questions relating to the topic such as why school authorities do not intervene and the matter reported to police. Why do racism, gender, and sexism of those affected and witnesses report the situation to the expense of compromising friendship in colleges? Ultimately, for those who speak up such as Clara, their efforts are no heard thus risking their careers into jeopardy for what is happening in their lives. However, the introduction of public conferences would facilitate in removing the bad cultures and immorality portrayed in the college and the society. In addition, stringent measures should be taken to those found capable of tolerating and practicing racism to all learning institutions thus empowering more women and engage them in activism such as the Chicanas activism. Since such situations that happened to Clara demand equity and justice, it would be fair to provide more power and responsibilities to intuitions to eradicate the bad menaces in the society that would improve the good relationship in the community. Ultimately, validating proper moral requires strict adherence to the rule of law as depicted in Chicanas theory to always advocate for the truth regardless of your background to make progress in life.
