Racial discrimination has been a controversial issue that needs to be addressed through the application of different measures. The human rights activists have fought for the rights of the minority groups for a long time, but the menace has not been eliminated. It is worth noting that the application of different strategies may help in addressing the issue (Bonilla-Silva 2017). The boldness of Charles Barkley to air the show on race connotes the dedication to inform the whole world of the need to end racial discrimination, through the application of new strategies for instance TV shows a method that had not been applied before.
The phenomenon of the shows popularity is the increase in racial discrimination in America. The race issue has been a concern for decades, and no show has ever been aired to address the issue. It, therefore, gains popularity because it is a crucial subject that no one has ever dared to talk about on any TV series (Charles 2017). The show is appealing to all the inhabitants of America who are not Native Americans. It includes African Americans, Hispanics, Latinos, and Indian Americans among other minorities facing racial discrimination in America. It is also appealing to the human rights activists and all those who advocate for the end of discrimination and the embracing of equality among all the Americans (Charles 2017). The reason as to why it appeals to this people is due to the concerns they have on the racial discrimination, and they understand what they go through amidst those who discriminate against them.
The brand name American Race denotes the existence of racial issues in America that perhaps need attention and justifies the use of the brand name in a TV show. The show is aired on every night of Thursday and Friday in two episodes at 9 and 10 pm (ET/PT) on the Turner network television on national basketball association (TNT NBA). The show is aired on a TV network that is among the ones that are most tuned in giving it a comprehensive coverage of the targeted audience (Charles 2017). The TV network that the show is featured connotes the value and the weight the matter of race carries.
The show features Barkley traveling to diverse cities to discover the changing aspects of the race. It covers four subjects based on different ports. For instance immigration in Atlanta, race, and entertainment in Los Angeles, race and policing in Baltimore and what it is to be a Muslim in Texas (Charles 2017). The four regions chosen is a representation of different subjects that will give perfect examples of what people go through amidst the natives of America.
The quality of the of the show is depicted by the different facets that have been used to analyze racial discrimination which includes religion, entertainment, immigration and policing the factors used touches on almost every person affected by racial issues. Therefore, the audience can easily relate their life experiences to the show (Bonilla-Silva 2017).The value of the show is indicated by the time that the show has been allocated. It has two episodes featured for two days enabling the audience to get more information on the issue such that those who cannot access it in one of the days can access it on the next day.
Racial discrimination is an issue that touches on the lives of all the people who live in America and are not natives. They face discrimination based on their ethnic backgrounds (Van Dijk 2015). It is an issue that affects people in employment, health facilities, learning institutions, entertainment places among other spheres of life where people interact socially, politically and economically. The show is geared towards informing and mitigating the issue.
